Dear Reader,
I never expected to be here.
I started as a Strength and Conditioning Coach back in 2012 as a former athlete looking to do something fun after two failed career attempts.
In my first Spring Training coaching with the Arizona Diamondbacks, I felt the familiar tug of a migraine headache start to build behind my eyes.
This was nothing new. I got my first migraine in the second grade and have dealt with them ever since.
They were often crippling. Many times forcing me to spend the rest of the day in a dark, cold room or huddled over the toilet.
In an effort to not be the new guy who had to go home because his head hurt, I asked the medical staff if they had anything for a migraine.
I was looking for medicine, but minutes later, our medical director walked in and started putting me through a battery of strange tests and exercises.
After a few minutes, he asked me stand up.
“How do you feel?” he asked.
Surprisingly, I felt better.
Shockingly, I felt ALL better.
Shocked and emotional, I begged him to explain to me what he had just done.
“It’s too complicated,” he said.
And that was my moment.
That was the turning point that sent me down the path of finding the answers to getting out of pain.
It first lead me to the Postural Restoration Institute, a physical therapy clinic in Lincoln, Nebraska. They were teaching an incredible science rooted in detailed anatomy, breathing and some very unique exercises.
They seemed to have secrets that no one else did and a lot of people healed quickly…but not everyone.
A percentage of people still struggled to rid themselves of their pain.
Then I went to massage school so I could influence the tissue directly with my hands.
More people got better…but still, some did not.
I kept digging deeper. Trying to crack the code.
I started to study neuroscience and psychology. It seemed that the people still struggling to get better had some sort of block in their brain to wiping out the pain.
But even with the advanced strategies of brain science, STILL, some people struggled to get better.
There was something deeper going on.
As I continued to dive deeper, I began to notice a peculiar trend. All of the books I was reading were sneaking in references to the Bible.
“The greatest teacher of all, the carpenter from the plains of Galilee gave us the secret time and time again: As ye believe, so shall it be done - unto you.” - Earl Nightingale in The Strangest Secret
I began to wonder if I should read it.
I have never been particularly religious. Spiritual, yes, but not religious.
But I was open to the idea that I might be able to learn something from it.
So I started reading.
I’m not sure what I was expecting but I got the same old stories. Adam & Eve, Noah’s Ark, and Cain & Able. I picked up a few things I hadn’t heard before but no secrets were being revealed to me.
That’s when I stumbled upon Jordan Peterson’s lecture series on Genesis.
It blew me away.
Not because I agreed with everything he said but because I couldn’t believe that he got ALL OF THAT from those few lines.
It was the first time I considered that their may be a depth to these stories that I hadn’t initially considered.
“Why do you speak in parables.”
And he answered them, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.”
Matthew 13:11
This is when I started researching other great interpretations like Dante’s Divine Comedy and the artwork of the great Michelangelo.
Through these studies, it was as if the great veil was finally lifting.
It was giving me a framework to live by.
It was creating order from chaos.
That’s when I decided to start dripping some of these ideas out to my chronic pain clients who were struggling to get better.
Breakthrough after breakthrough after breakthrough followed.
We were called miracle workers, witch doctors and our clinic began being referred to as “The Hail Mary Clinic” because people who had experienced decades of pain and had run out of hope were suddenly getting better.
The point had come that I felt obligated to share what I had found.
I could no longer sit on this information.
The strategies of Saint Bartholomew consist of four levels…
Posture & Breathing
Strength
Energy Production
Central Nervous System Regulation: This is where the Bible comes into play.
The biblical strategies that we rely on are intended to down-regulate your fight-or-flight response so that we can make the necessary changes to your physical body.
In short, the brain must grant permission to make the change.
In the presence of fear, self-doubt, anxiety, depression or any mental chaos, the healing powers remain behind lock & key.
The Bible gives us the strategies to settle the brain and open the door.
Saint Bartholomew’s mission is to effectively eliminate chronic pain for as many suffering souls as we can.
And this is how we do it.
Sincerely,
Sean Light
